Beyond Pink and Green présente douze entretiens “réalisés auprès de femmes et/ou personnes queers de l’entourage proche de l’artiste. Les témoins parlent depuis différents rôles, savoirs et pratiques liées au soin, au corps, aux relations et aux plantes. Leurs paroles entrecroisées se mêlent aux images végétales. Le mode de captage de cet herbier vidéo, donne à voir des images mises en scène ou simplement piochées au détour d’une balade, déclinant un mélange de plantes, fleurs et champignons sauvages, de mauvaises herbes qui s’invitent dans des interstices urbains, d’imitations
synthétiques ou de reproductions sur divers objets domestiques. Au-delà d’un simple décor, ces images apparaissent et disparaissent en écho à ce qui est raconté, dans un dialogue constant.” – Léa Besson (texte intégral)
Thought as a counterpoint to the essentialist logic in which women, are considered in the same way as plants, naturally docile, domesticated and decorative – here both plants and gender minorities are badass, sassy and strong.
Twelve women and non binary people express their experiences relating to their professional or day to day practice. These vary between hairdressing, medicine, photography, sex work, herbal remedies, mycology, tattoo art, visuel art, football, massage, relationship health education. Through their own intimate and individual prism, they reveal how their strength and emancipation is found between the cracks of patriarchal oppression : rivalry replaced by sorority and interdependency, appropriating the limits of one’s own body – and what it looks like, deforming the injunction of « care » and transforming it into a tool for empowerment. Weeds, cut flowers, hierarchised and selected are set into an ongoing analogy, along with funghi and ferns, mistletoe feeding off poplar trees, wisteria taking over pines, fenced off gardens and indoor monstera.
